We had fun.
It was a pot luck dinner and some people brought desserts, some people brought salads.
The girls had to wear skirts if they had one! It was a fun night at Mrs England's house. Teresa gave a thankyou speech and Lana and I gave a thankyou to Mrs Birdsall for putting up with our bad, good and ugly times. Chev'vy did the best backward flip on the tramp but a lot of the boys were able to jump pretty high! Chaddy lost the ball over the fence so that was the end of cricket! Hopefulky the goat doesn't eat it! Thankyou to all the teachers for waiting on us. It was a great way to finish our years at primary school.

Crane lifting beam on new A block

Wednesday 29th November
Today, a crane came to lift a beam up on to the framing of part of our new block. Jump Jam is an aerobic exercise programme where kids perform routines to music and have fun while getting fit. There were lots of good teams from years 1 to 8, mostly from Taranaki but there were some from the Manawatu. We were in the Year 6 to 8 catergory. We had a team of 7 boys. The routine we danced to was "Blame it on the Boggie". We struggleded at the start where the CD skipped, but held our positions and pulled it together. We all thought we had done well and the only thing left to do was wait and hope. It came down to the final two teams. They were really good as well. Everyone was crossing every they had, as well as biting their finger nails waiting for the judges to make their decision. The judges were from Sport Taranaki. The call was made 2nd place goes to... Ouroa Downs. That means first place goes to... Eltham Primary!!!!!!!! Everyone cheered and screamed with happiness. Next step for us is the National competition which will be held in Auckland, 2nd December (in two weeks time). We can't wait!!!!

A block at Puke Ariki

Friday 17th november
Hi, us again giving you the lowdown of what's happening at our school. We have Amanda and Marisa from Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth here who are working with some senior students to archive some of our old school photos. The oldest one is from 1927, just after A block was first built. We have quite a few from the 50s and forward but not as many from the 30s or 40s. There are some that span through 3 or 4 generations.
The ladies from Puke Ariki will be back in a couple of weeks to help us put the photos into a movie that we can then keep as a part of our history.

A block construction

Things are happening quickly this week! Today we are having Smartboards installed in two of our classrooms. A Smartboard is a modern interactive whiteboard that enables you to write with your finger, erase with your finger and control things with your finger! No more mouses! It also has a projector so we can all see the screen. It is special and comes with a hefty price tag. Even the teachers had weird and wonderful hair-does for the day!

A Block is Gone!

Our school is over 100 years old and our oldest building was over 81 years old. It was a big, concrete block with classrooms and offices. It was cold in winter and hot in summer. It was hard to get onto the internet or access our server because of the solid concrete walls. A decision was made to replace the block with a more user friendly, modern one. Demolition took place in the last school holidays and by the time the kids came back to school the site was clear and ready for building contactors to move in. Luckily the demolition crew were able to save our frontage which is our front 3 arches with the school motto. This has been moved out of the way until a more permanent home can be found for it. Builders stared leveling the site. All very busy and exciting!

A bit about us ....

We are a year 7 & 8 class at Eltham Primary School in Eltham, Taranaki, New Zealand.
